Books I’ve Read Recently

I am mostly drawn to psychological thrillers but sometimes you just need a break. This is a mix of books I’ve read recently. The majority of my books I get through the Libby app that connects my library card. You can rent them on the app and read them on your kindle!

You’ve Been Volunteered: A Class Mom Novel

I think this is the second book in this series but I didn’t really know that until afterwards. You don’t need to read the books in order. This was such a funny, quick, and light read.

The Unhoneymooners (No Series) by [Christina Lauren]

The Unhoneymooners

I was in a Verity hangover and needed to switch genres. I started on a rom com kick and this was the perfect book to start it off. We read this for our book club and I fell in love with it. It’s so witty, fun, and sweet that I think anyone will love this one. I don’t read books multiple times, except for Harry Potter, but I’d read this again for sure!

Twice in a Blue Moon by [Christina Lauren]

Twice In a Blue Moon

I was so hooked on The Unhoneymooners that I jumped on the chance to read this one by Christina Lauren. Loved it so much.

Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating by [Christina Lauren]

Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating

Last Christina Lauren pick. Sorry, I was on a serious kick and they were just so cute that I couldn’t stop reading.

The Vacationers: A Novel by [Emma Straub]

The Vacationers

I just finished this one and honestly, I wasn’t loving this story at first. It was odd and a little slow but I ended up really enjoying it. I felt like it hit very normal themes about marriage, family, teens, etc. FYI I enjoyed this as an audio book much better than I did reading it.

The Couple Next Door: A Novel by [Shari Lapena]

The Couple Next Door

I listened to this one and it was entertaining. Not my favorite but enjoyable. The one below by Shari Lapena I liked much better.

A Stranger in the House: A Novel

A Stranger in the House

I liked this one much better than The Couple Next Door actually.  This was really enjoyable and I finished it on a staycation with my husband. Ah, remember when we could go places…good times.

I should also add that if you love thrillers you need some B.A. Paris in your life. I listened to a lot of them on Libby and loved them! I’m a huge fan.

The Grace Year: A Novel by [Kim Liggett]

The Grace Year

HOLY MOLY. This book is a fascinating read that is a blend of Hunger Games, Handmaids Tale, and Lord of the Flies. I mean, it’s NUTS! Someone please read this so we can discuss.

How To Keep a Secret by [Sarah Morgan]

How to Keep a Secret

This is our newest book club pick and I haven’t started it yet. It’s only $2.99 on kindle if you want to read along!

I will most likely add a couple more to my currently reading list since there are a few books that I’ve started and just need to finish.

On my bookshelf

I am struggling, I mean seriously struggling to read a book lately. I typically love reading but I guess I can’t find a book that I can stick to all the way through. I just finished an audio book and I still don’t know why I finished it because it was soon anticlimactic!

Have you ever read a book that had good reviews but you hated it?! Hate might be a strong word but I wish the ending was better. What felt like 85 hours later I finally finished Before the Fall by Noah Hawley. Do you have any great audio book recommendations?

In hopes of getting my reading bug back below are the most recent books that are on my reading list.

  1. Start.: Punch Fear in the Face, Escape Average, and Do Work That Matters by Jon Acuff. This book was recommended to me by my amazing life coach, Laine Schmidt. I’ll share more on life-coaching later! I love books that leave me feeling inspired and I always need a good kick in the right direction.
  2. Girl, Wash Your Face: Stop Believing the Lies About Who You Are so You Can Become Who You Were Meant to Be by Rachel Hollis. I think the title says it all.
  3. The Road Back to You: An Enneagram Journey to Self-Discovery by Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile. Do you love personality tests like I do?! I was a psychology major and I love getting a deeper understanding of who I am and why I might think or act a certain way.
  4. Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan. I need a fun and light hearted book in this list. I’ve heard really great things about this book. It’s also being made in to a movie and I’d like to read it before it comes out!

Let me know what you’re reading below!
